Harrisburg, PA – Governor Wolf announced today that the Commonwealth Financing Authority approved the allocation of more than $10.76 million in gaming funds to support community improvement, economic development and public interest projects in Monroe, Carbon, Lackawanna, Northampton, Pike and Wayne Counties.

“The projects approved by the CFA will directly impact the citizens of Monroe County and the surrounding area,” said Governor Wolf. “Investments that support community improvement and economic development help build a stronger workforce, and spur job creation.”

A total of 13 projects in Monroe County were awarded funds that originated from the Local Share Account (LSA), which included $731,660 to support community improvement, $1.05 million to support economic development and $2.5 million to support public interest projects.

In addition, 55 projects in Carbon, Lackawanna, Northampton, Pike and Wayne Counties were awarded funds from the LSA, which included $2.99 million to support community improvement, $800,331 million to support economic development and $2.68 million to support public interest projects.

The PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act established the Pennsylvania Gaming Local Share Account under the CFA for the purpose of distributing funds to support economic development, community improvement and public interest projects.

Under state law, licensed gaming facilities are assessed a fee to support and enhance their host communities and mitigate the impact of gaming. Funds in the account are generated by licensed gaming facilities operating in the state.

The board of the Commonwealth Financing Authority held a special meeting Wednesday afternoon to consider approving gaming grants for Monroe County and contiguous counties of Monroe.

The board unanimously approved more than 10 million dollars of grants during a meeting that lasted under two minutes.

ORDINANCES FOR FINAL PASSAGE • Bill 5-2015 - An Ordinance of the City Council of the City of Harrisburg to technically amend and update Section 5-703.2 of the Codified Ordinances of the City, relating to the imposition and allocation of a parking tax, to conform with legislative Acts adopted in 2013 by the City Council for the implementations of the Harrisburg Strong Plan.

RESOLUTIONS

• Resolution 42-2015 – A Resolution approving a Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Local Law Enforcement Grant Agreement between the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (“Grantor”) and the City of Harrisburg (“Grantee”) and the Humane Society of Harrisburg (“Co-Grantee”) for $160,572.48 of grant funds in year one and $136,842.18 in year two in order to prevent, investigate and prosecute unlawful gambling.

• Resolution 43-2015 – A Resolution ratifying the submission of a Federal Equitable Sharing Agreement and Certification to the United States Department of Justice to participate in the Federal Equitable Sharing Program.

• Resolution 50-2015 – A Resolution authorizing the entry into a Street Lighting Upgrade and Guaranteed Savings Contract with The Efficiency Network to upgrade the City's streetlights and other exterior lights ("Project") and to monitor and guarantee cost savings from the upgrade in accordance with Act 39 known as the Pennsylvania Guaranteed Energy Savings Act, 62 PA.C.S. Sections 3751-3757.

• Resolution 51-2015 – A Resolution approving a Regional Connections Funding Grant Agreement and a related professional services contract with a design professional to be selected by a selection committee appointed by the Mayor to perform preliminary engineering for North Sixth Street, North Seventh Street and Division Street.

• Resolution 52-2015 – A Resolution authorizing the City of Harrisburg to enter into Agreements for the production and development of the Independence Day Festival for 2015.
