A five-page proposal released on October 10th, 2013 outlines the vision for a non-profit membership organization to govern the Broad Street Market.

Julia James, Business Manager of The Circle School in Harrisburg, Joshua Kesler, Harrisburg Businessman and Entrepreneur, and Harrisburg resident Ashlee O. Shelton, have crafted a proposal to overhaul Board membership and participation to include various professional stakeholders, residents and vendors.

The new proposal seeks to leverage the expertise and insight of vendors, members of the community, industry experts and the Mayor of Harrisburg to guide the selection of Board members who will oversee the operation of the Broad Street Market.

Under the proposed structure these diverse groups would appoint 11 members to serve on the Board of Directors. The Harrisburg Mayor, Vendor and Community Committees would each select 2 members to serve two-year staggered terms.

The Agricultural Committee would include representatives of the PA Department of Agriculture, PASA, the PA Farmers Union, Farmers Market Coalition, Tuscarora Organic Growers Cooperative, Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative, PA Farm Bureau, PA Department of Health, and Penn State Extension. This Committee would appoint the 5 members. Two of which would serve two-year staggered terms, and the remaining three would serve three-year staggered terms.

The group has a website located at BroadStreetMarketAlliance.org, and a Facebook page located here.
