Type of Incident: Death investigation – bludgeoning.

. Date / Time: 02-13-2013, at about 1125 hrs.

. Location: 1500 block of Vernon St.

. Investigating Officer: Detective Quinten Kennedy.

. Victim R/S/A: Jose Vazquez, Hispanic male, 60, 1500 block of Vernon St.

. Suspect: Pending investigation.

. Charges: Pending.

. Narrative: On 02-13-2013 at about 1130 hrs. patrol officers were dispatched to a home in the 1500 block of Vernon St. on a report that two men were fighting with hammers. The officers were met at the door of the home by a witness who lives in York, PA. Inside, they found a 55 year old black male on the floor with stab wounds to his back. In a second floor bedroom they found Jose Vazquez in bed and seriously injured with significant head trauma. The men were taken to separate area hospitals.

. Another witness, a brother to Jose Vazquez, was in the residence. He said that he came to the residence to see Jose. The black male tried to stop him and then hit him on the side of the head with a large hammer. A struggle ensued and the black male was stabbed as he tried to hit the man with a hammer again. The black male was subdued by the witnesses.

. Jose’s brother was detained at the scene and taken to the Bureau office for questioning. He has been released. He suffered a large contusion to the side of his head and several cuts and abrasions. He will seek medical attention on his own.

Jose Vazquez died as a result of his injuries. He had suffered massive head trauma.

. The black male is hospitalized and is expected to recover from his wounds. That man had reportedly lived with Jose Vazquez for the past few days.
