On June 26, 2012, attorney Paul Rossi filed a lawsuit on behalf of the City of Harrisburg's Controller, Treasurer, and five City Councilors. It's their claim that the Receivership of Harrisburg violates Federal equal protection and due process. Rossi explains the purpose of the suit and speaks against the Receiver law that "suspends representative democracy." He further asserts the takeover statute singled out the financially distressed capital City. Rossi states, "The City of Harrisburg cannot be treated differently than other Third Class cities." Legal fees in this case are being paid for by the IMC of Greater Harrisburg and the Martin Luther King Leadership Development Institute. Representative for the groups, attorney Tyrone Powell, says, "We believe that in times of economic crisis, we need more democracy not less democracy."---Tara Leo Auchey Harrisburg City Council Controller Treasurer Photo/Natalie Cake
