During the May 8th Senate Appropriations Committee Meeting, Chair Senator Jake Corman moves Senate Bill 1466 which amends the Governor's 2012-2013 Budget by proposing "a variety of changes," Corman says. As amendments to the amendment, Senator Vincent Hughes puts forth a $50 million "basic education subsidy to provide an allocation to distressed school districts." He also puts forth a restoration of $50 million of the PA accountability block grants in the Department of Education, which is used by schools to fund kindergarten and before school programs. Both Senator Hughes' amendments pass unanimously.--Tara Leo Auchey
