DISTRICT ATTORNEY ED MARSICO TO RUN FOR DAUPHIN COUNTY COURT OF COMMON PLEAS

Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico today announced that he will seek election to the Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas in 2017. Marsico, 53, of Lower Paxton Township, is the longest serving District Attorney in Dauphin County history, holding that position for seventeen years. Marsico, a Republican, stated his intention to seek the nomination of both the Republican and Democratic parties in the May primary election. Three judicial positions will be on the ballot this year.

I firmly believe that my experience as a prosecutor provides me with the necessary tools to be an effective, fair judge, Marsico stated. In his tenure as District Attorney, Marsico has assembled a staff of experienced prosecutors and detectives. The office has successfully prosecuted thousands of cases, and Marsico himself has tried over one hundred cases before juries, including Herbert Blakeney, who killed a 15 month old, and Ziad Akari, who killed his wife before fleeing to Egypt.

Marsico was chosen by his colleagues to be President of the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association.

He currently serves as Legislative Chair for the association. As Chairperson of the Dauphin County Criminal Justice Advisory Board, he spearheaded the development of the county’s Drug and Veterans Courts, which provide treatment alternatives to incarceration for certain offenders. Marsico worked with the Dauphin County Chiefs of Police Association to allow them to share information easily and to develop the DauphinCrimewatch website to provide the public with information and receive tips on crimes. He also provided funding for cameras in high crime areas in the City of Harrisburg.

Criminal defense attorney Ed Spreha noted, Ed has always displayed an even temperament, a sharp legal mind and a firm, but fair, approach to the administration of justice. As a Common Pleas Judge, I expect Ed’s experience and demeanor will add to and continue the strong reputation our Bench has in this Commonwealth.

An adjunct professor at Widener University School of Law—Commonwealth, and Harrisburg Area Community College, Marsico also routinely instructs attorneys for the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Institute and Pennsylvania Bar Institute. Marsico served as Chair of the Young Lawyers Section of the Dauphin County Bar Association and has held positions on numerous local charitable boards. He received his B.A. in Government from the University of Notre Dame, and his J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law. Marsico resides in Lower Paxton Township with his wife, Jodi and their four sons.

I hope the citizens of Dauphin County will give me the opportunity to continue my public service in the capacity as judge. I would welcome that challenge and vow to seek justice in every case that would come before me, Marsico stated.
