Dauphin County Commissioners Meeting April 8, 2015.

8 Apr
Wednesday @ 1:20 pm

Chad Saylor, Chief Clerk of Dauphin county is a little upset over a letter sent to the county by Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse concerning the 14th street sinkhole and a federal grant application for disaster funds.

Chad Saylor. I am sure that Mount Papenfuse will erupt again.

The city engineer failed to show a connection between the floods of 2011 and the sinkholes of 2013.

A meeting last Thursday with HUD, DCED, and county officials.

Letter from Chad Saylor to Mayor Papenfuse.

Rather than working together to solve this crisis affecting dozens of property owners you are pointing fingers and politicizing the issue. Your divisive letter full of baseless accusations and misinformation is mystifying.

Dauphin county commissioners Mike Pries and George Hartwick comment on the 14th street sinkhole disaster during a presentation on the National Disaster Resilience Competition.

Commissioner Harwick believes that the city is at fault for filing a late application for federal funds.

The city of Harrisburg did not meet the deadline for applying for disaster recovery dollars, as a matter of fact they were about 18 months late.

Commissioner Mike Pries provides his opinion on how the city should address infrastructure improvements.

They should be looking at a city wide project.

As released by Capitol Region Water:

SOUTH 14TH STREET WATER MAIN BREAK REPAIRED; BOIL WATER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT

CREWS WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE SITE; FURTHER STREET REPAIRS NEEDED

HARRISBURG (March 21, 2014) – Capital Region Water, formerly The Harrisburg Authority (THA), repaired a water main break on the 1400 block of South 14th Street yesterday afternoon. Customers now have water service but will remain under a Boil Water Advisory until Saturday at the earliest while testing takes place. One residence closest to the sinkhole will be reconnected to water service later today. Capital Region Water provided drinking water while gas service was shut off yesterday. Gas service is expected to return this afternoon to almost all residents while additional repairs take place.

“With the assistance of Harrisburg Police, Fire, and the Departments of Public Works and Codes Enforcement, our crews were able to make repairs to the water main quickly”, said Executive Director Shannon Williams, “We will continue to monitor the area and fix this issue correctly.”

While street repairs take place, Capital Region Water crews will assess the need for additional water line repairs or replacement.

“Our thoughts are with the residents”, said Williams, “what they went through is an example of why we can’t afford to ignore our water infrastructure any longer. We’re dedicated to fixing the problems that stem from a long neglected system as well as being proactive to prevent future issues.”
