As released by the Harrisburg Police Bureau:
Type of Incident: Kidnapping / Assault.
. Date / Time: 02-13-2013, at about 1820 hrs.
. Location: Harrisburg Area Community College.
. Investigating Officer: Patrol Division . Victim R/S/A: Black female, 34, Harrisburg resident . Suspect: Julian Amway, black male, 33, suburban Harrisburg.
. Charges: Kidnapping Simple Assault.
Terroristic Threats.
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
. Narrative: On 02-13-2013 at about 1820 hrs. patrol officers were dispatched to the Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) on a report of a possible abduction. A citizen called the police dispatch center and reported that his wife was in a classroom at HACC and she sent him a text that a black male was threatening the class with a weapon in what seemed to be a domestic issue. As officers responded information developed and it was reported that the man made indications of having a handgun and he forced a woman from the classroom and took her out of the building. Officers learned that the man was Julian Amway and the woman was his girlfriend.
. Our officers and HACC Security shut down the campus and searched the grounds. Vehicles leaving the grounds were searched.
. A coordinated effort involving family members of the woman, officers from surrounding jurisdictions, dispatchers from Dauphin County Control and our officers resulted in locating Amway and the woman near the Dock Street Dam at about 2030 hrs. Amway was taken into custody.
.
. Amway was not armed upon his arrest. He just had a pipe for using drugs.
. The investigation continues and anyone having any information on this is asked to contact Lt. Robert Fegan at 717-255-3114 or email HYPERLINK "mailto:rfegan@cityofhbg.com" rfegan@cityofhbg.com to reach officers handling the case.
